Champ(s) of the Week/Week of Nov 25

In a short week, we did something that had never been done in the history of the Champ of the Week, giving you two nominees in two days to fill the poll. In an even more unprecedented move, you couldn’t decide on just one. For the first time ever we have an even tie in the votes, meaning we have two Champ(s) of the Week. Both winners are well deserving of the honor.

Champ of the Week A is Dowling Catholic AD and head football coach Tom Wilson. Tom has lead Dowling to another 4A State Championship and into uncharted territory. Dowling sits alone at the top as the only team in the state to ever win 7 championship. While one tends to try and argue that Dowling continues to win because “they can recruit the best talent in the state”, in order to maintain this level of excellence a ton of the credit goes to the program and system Coach Wilson has built over his time with Dowling.

Your Champ of the Week B is Iowa State Cyclones tight end Charlie Kolar. It seems like we are in bizzaro world talking up a Cyclones tight end before a Hawkeye (after all Iowa is tight end U). But this is well deserved. Kolar has been a bright spot with the Cyclones this season, breaking the single season reception yards by a tight end early in the month of November and finished the season off with 48 receptions, 675 yards and 7 TDs. Not bad numbers at all in his first season on the field for ISU and the sky is the limit for this young star in the making.
