Champ of the Week: Week of Dec 2, 2019

Your Champ of the Week this week is an individual who is a true champion on, and off the mat. With a career record of 150-21 and win percentage of 87.72%, Brandon Sorensen was a dominating force on the mat for the Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling program. After a emergency trip to the ER the day after Thanksgiving revealed a diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia, Sorensen plans to battle cancer with all the intensity he had taking an opponent to the ground. Saying, “I am prepared to beat this disease, and there is no wait. The challenge is right in front of me and I am all-in. I know I am not alone in this fight. I have the very best doctors, resources, and family you could possibly hope for, and I know that we will beat this.”, it is clear to see that he is ready to fight with everything he has.

His family has started a GoFundMe page to help with the cost of his expected medical expenses, and fan response has been overwhelming as the page has already generated over $100,000 in donations; you can donate here. Our thoughts are with Brandon and his family as he prepares for the biggest wrestling match of his life and he is truly deserving of being your Champ of the Week.
