During the holiday season, in an extremely generous move that landed Khalil Mack on our vote for Champ of the Week, his foundation pledged to pay off families layaway bills at a Wal-Mart in Fort Pierce, Florida. With a donation of $80,000 Mack made holiday wishes come true for over 300 families. However, when the layaway totals only amounted to $60,000, employees decided to use the remaining $20,000 on themselves. The move was allegedly cleared by Wal-Mart management, however a company spokesperson has said, “We have determined the store did not handle the transaction in keeping with Walmart’s guidelines and have taken corrective action.” The spokesperson also stated that they were made aware of the misuse by an employee who was not involved in the spending.
